    Get PDF
Geographic information is a valuable source for applications and analysis, where location of objects and events, can enhance the decision making activities. Recently, the interoperability of geospatial data has been an ongoing research activity and goal of the geospatial information user community for decades. Focusing on data integration scenarios, the recent popularity and adoption of the internet and web services, has provided a new means of interoperability for geospatial information, differing from previous approaches to information exchange. Currently the interoperability approaches of geospatial information with real estate data are inadequate. This thesis argues that utilizing the interoperability real estate data, with geospatial data using web services, is the best method to achieve efficient data exchange than traditional approaches. The thesis demonstrates this by developing a spatial web service to facilitate transferring data, from real estate users, to Geographic Information System (GIS) data layers. The thesis also discusses how web services affect data preparation and data updating. Various scenarios of geocoding and transferring real estate data into geospatial data will be discussed. A web interface implementation is presented, to illustrate the validity of the interoperable spatial web service approach, with real estate for which this thesis argues. The interface has two ways communication. On one hand users will be able to use the spatial web service to integrate the property data, with GIS service provider. On the other hand, user will be able to receive a map report for the geocoded property

Effect of Zn2+ and K+ as Retarding Agents on Rock-Based Geopolymers for Downhole Cementing Operations

    Get PDF
Geopolymer material has a potential to function alongside Portland Cement as an efficient cementitious material for well cementing and plug and abandonment applications. Geopolymer material requires retarding agents to be displaced into the well while considering the properties required to maintain efficient zonal isolation through superior mechanical properties. Chemical admixtures affect the material structure and can, in some cases, jeopardize material integrity if not engineered properly to suite downhole conditions. The present article shows the effect of Zn2+ and K+ species have as retarding agents on slurry, mechanical, and microstructural properties. The approach has been carried out to obtain a preliminary overview of how retarding agents can behave in mix design slurries where eventually sealing performance was examined. Samples were cured and examined for periods of 1, 3, 7, 14, and 28 days at downhole conditions. The results obtained confirm a retardation effect by the addition of Zn2+ and K+ species and some shortcomings in early strength development due to a poisoning mechanism by Zn2+ species. This phenomenon indicates the formation of Ca-Zn phase that can hinder the nucleation of the geopolymeric gel structure. No significant effects were observed on the microstructural development throughout the curing period. The effect of Zn2+ species was also observed in increasing threshold for hydraulic sealability. It may be concluded that the tested retarding agents require furthermore development to minimize shortcomings in mechanical properties specifically early strength development.publishedVersio

    Get PDF
In this research, the finite element method is used to develop a numerical model to analyse the effect of the external strengthening of reinforced concrete beams by using carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) sheets. A finite element model has been developed to investigate the behavior of RC beams strengthened with CFRP sheets by testing nineteen externally simple R.C. beams, tested under a four-point load setup until failure. Various CFRP systems were used to strengthen the specimens.  The numerical results using the (ANSYS workbench v.19.1) were calibrated and validated with the experimental results.  The research results indicate a significant improvement in the structural behavior of the specimens strengthened using CFRP sheet systems. Then the validated model investigated the effect of the width of CFRP sheets, no of layers, and CFRP size on the behavior of strengthened R.C. beams. Results of this numerical investigation show the effectiveness of increase CFRP width to improve the flexural capacity of R.C. beams. An increase in the flexural capacity up to 100 % compared to the control beam

This study examined pre-service teachers\u27 expertise, perceptions and integration of cloud applications in teaching of Arabic and English. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were used as data collection methods. The findings of the study specified that pre-service teachers did not own sufficient expertise for effective integration of cloud applications. The findings also revealed that participants perceived cloud applications as a valuable tool to improve many aspects of language education. Nonetheless, participants concentrated on integrating limited features of cloud applications. While the study revealed that there was no significant difference in participants\u27 expertise in integrating cloud applications based on the language they teach, it found that pre-service English teachers had significantly higher levels of positive perceptions and integration of cloud applications than pre-service Arabic teachers. Finally, a positive significant correlation was found between expertise, perceptions, and integration of cloud applications

Introduction: Umbilical granuloma is a widespread problem that may cause anguish to the parents. Patients and method: A randomized controlled study was conducted on 85 neonates aged 2-4 weeks (42 males and 43 females) with a diagnosis of umbilical granuloma. They were randomly divided into 2 groups; group A included 42 patients (20 males and 22 females), and group B included 43 patients (21 males and 22 females). Parents of group A patients were instructed to use a small amount of common salt on the granuloma after cleaning it, and to cover the salt by blaster for 30 minutes to keep it in place; after that, the blaster had to be removed, and the umbilicus was cleaned with sterile cotton and water to remove the salt. The procedure was repeated for 3 days straight. Group B was treated once by applying clean dry silver nitrate sticks (concentration of 20%) on the granuloma; contact with normal skin was avoided. The procedure was performed by the researcher himself at his clinic. Statistical analysis was done by using Fisher Exact test. Results: In group A, 39 (92.9%) responded to treatment by salt, while 3 (7.1%) of them did not respond. In group B, 41 (95.3%) responded to treatment by silver nitrate, while 2 (4.7%) did not respond. There was no significant difference between the two groups, with p-value = 0.676. Conclusion: Umbilical granuloma can be treated with topical application of common salt; such a method can be considered a valid alternative for its effectiveness, safety, and simplicity

Tracing Syntactic Change in the Scientific Genre: Two Universal Dependency-parsed Diachronic Corpora of Scientific English and German

    Get PDF
We present two comparable diachronic corpora of scientific English and German from the Late Modern Period (17th c.--19th c.) annotated with Universal Dependencies. We describe several steps of data pre-processing and evaluate the resulting parsing accuracy showing how our pre-processing steps significantly improve output quality. As a sanity check for the representativity of our data, we conduct a case study comparing previously gained insights on grammatical change in the scientific genre with our data. Our results reflect the often reported trend of English scientific discourse towards heavy noun phrases and a simplification of the sentence structure (Halliday, 1988; Halliday and Martin, 1993; Biber and Gray, 2011; Biber and Gray, 2016). We also show that this trend applies to German scientific discourse as well. The presented corpora are valuable resources suitable for the contrastive analysis of syntactic diachronic change in the scientific genre between 1650 and 1900. The presented pre-processing procedures and their evaluations are applicable to other languages and can be useful for a variety of Natural Language Processing tasks such as syntactic parsing. This work is supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) – Project-ID 232722074 – SFB 1102
